Thomas Woodward, the founder of Scientific Coatings, has always had a deep-rooted connection to the world of coatings. Growing up as the 5th generation in his family’s paint store, Thomas was immersed in the coatings industry from a young age laying the foundation for his lifelong passion and expertise coatings.

After earning his degree from UMass Amherst, Thomas proudly enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, where he played a pivotal role in fleet coatings management. He was responsible for writing and implementing protocols that ensured the Coast Guard’s fleet received the highest standards of protective coatings. His military service not only sharpened his skills but also reinforced his dedication to precision and excellence.

Following his time in the Coast Guard, Thomas continued to thrive in the coatings industry, working in various sectors including marine, agricultural, and high-performance wood coatings, consult for the Department of Defense on specialized coatings, further solidifying his reputation as an expert in the field. Thomas has applied coatings all over the globe, including Italy where he received much of his fine finish painting education.

Now, with Scientific Coatings, Thomas is channeling his expertise into a passion project that allows him to provide cutting-edge coating solutions, including Cerakote application to specialty coatings for a wide range of industries.
